Fly Fishing CRAZY has Bamboo Rods starting as low as $1000.  They can go up to $2200 and more with options added.  Even though some may appear to be more of a Work of Art than a fishing instrument, no matter the price, Bamboo fly rods are meant to be fished.

Tonkin Bamboo Fly Rods are known for their delicate presentation of dry flies, but a good rod maker can build a rod with various action, some very soft and others with the backbone to cast large nymphs without loosing the delicate presentation.  Tonkin Cane is a very strong material and will provide decades of service if maintained properly, they should be wiped down after each use.

I am a proud volunteer for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.  The Denver chapter is currently teaching disabled Veterans to tie flies and cast a fly rod.  We now offer rod building classes for veterans.  The flies they tie will be lost or tattered with use, but a fly rod can be be a life long companion in their fly fishing efforts.
