FLIES - Tied in Colorado
Custom Tied Flies from renowned Colorado flytyer Ken Walrath.  Ken has been tying flies for over 30 years.  He used to watch his grandfather tie flies, holding the hook in one hand and the tying material in the other, if he needed two hands he stuck the hook in a block of wood.  Ken used to sit for hours and watch him tie and then they would go out to the lake or the river and catch fish on what he tied. Ken started tying when he was about 9 years old under his grandfather's patient, yet critical, eye. Ken is just now getting involved in tying for Project Healing Waters and has been contributing to Casting for Recovery for about 5 years and also ties in the Fly-fishing Show West in Denver, Colorado.  He belongs to West Denver Trout Unlimited.

Ken doesn't just tie a pattern because he's read about it.  He uses all the patterns he ties.  He can actually say that all his patterns are “tried and true”!  While living on the East Coast, he fished for Stripers and blues in the waters of Rhode Island and fished for bass, rainbows and browns in the lakes, river and streams of Massachusetts.  He has fished for King Salmon in Lake Ontario and Steelhead in Washington State.  Now residing in Colorado, he fishes all the lakes and rivers and every year makes a trip to the San Juan River in New Mexico. If it swims, he'll cast a fly to it. Fly-fishing is his peace in a busy world.

Ken hand ties quality flies that work, and at affordable prices, some as low as 55 cents per fly.  He ties them "Buggy" to catch fish.  When you pay $2 per fly at your local fly shop, those flies are tied to look perfect to the customer.  In nature, there are no "perfect" insects.  There are stillborns, injured, plumps and runts.  The fish don't have time to count the number of segments, legs, antennae or tail fibers.  If it looks "Buggy", they jump on it.

As many of you know, I offer free shipping on all products within the continental U.S.  Consequently, so I don't lose my shirt on my shipping costs, I need to limit purchases to a minimum order of 2 dozen flies (Exception: Assortments can be ordered in quantity of 2).  You can order 3 nymphs, 12 dries, 6 streamers and 3 midges or any other combination, as long as it is a quantity of 24, in total, or more.

At these prices, that shouldn't break your bank.
The solitude of a trout stream or the calm waters of a lake have a healing power that can't be explained, but also, can't be denied!  Healing our soldiers can be a long process. We help them reconnect with the peace for which they fought so hard!
I am a proud volunteer for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.  The Denver chapter is currently teaching disabled Veterans to tie flies and cast a fly rod.  We now offer rod building classes for veterans.  The flies they tie will be lost or tattered with use, but a fly rod can be be a life long companion in their fly fishing efforts.
Support our Disabled Veterans. We owe them so much more for keeping us safe and protecting our Freedom. Visit ProjectHealingWaters.org today and get involved in your area.
